Cell Phone Policy

CELL PHONE POLICY

California law states that students cannot have their cell phones during instructional time. At MHS, students are expected to turn in their cell phones and non-academic technological devices to a phone caddy in each classroom. Students may possess or use a cell phone outside of instructional time including break and lunch.  The phone may not be used for illegal or unethical activities such as cheating on assignments or tests. Cell phones may not be used during a break from the classroom such as a bathroom or water break.  

1st violation of this policy requires that the device be immediately turned off and turned into the teacher to be put in the caddy 

2nd violation of this policy requires that the device be confiscated by a faculty or staff member and sent to the office for an end of day pick up

3rd violation of this policy requires that the device be turned over to the MHS Lead Safety Officer to be picked up by the guardian

*Any student on their phone and out of class during class time will have their phone taken by a campus monitor and turned into the office

Every incident will be logged in the MHS electronic device log maintained by the Lead Safety Officer.  It is mandatory that the device be turned over to the MHSLSO by either a campus monitor or the teacher/staff who confiscated the phone.  At no time will the phone be given to a student to convey to the MHSLSO.  The device will be returned to the student at the end of the academic day or the parent/guardian of the student will be notified of the violation of policy by the MHSLSO.

A student who violates this policy may be prohibited from possessing a cell phone at school or school-related events and/or may be subject to discipline in accordance with MHS and MPUSD Board policy and administrative regulations.
