Monterey High School Recognized as a Top Performing School by the Educational Results Partnership

One of two Monterey County schools and the only high school in Monterey County to make the Honor Roll list

Monterey High School was recognized as a top-performing school by the Educational Results Partnership making it one of two Monterey County schools and the only Monterey County high school to make the annual Honor Roll list of California’s top-performing schools and districts.

This is the ninth year that ERP has completed the Honor Roll list, which recognizes top public schools, school districts and charter schools that have outperformed their peers in closing achievement gaps, particularly among higher-poverty and historically disadvantaged student populations. This year 1,430 schools and 109 districts in California made the Honor Roll Click here to view the full list of Honor Roll schools and districts

“This is an exceptional recognition because it reflects the tenacity of our students, as well as the hard work of our entire school community including teachers, parents and support staff.  It is a team effort to create a great school,” said Thomas Newton, Principal, Monterey High School. “The student-teacher relationship is instrumental to academic success, and I could not be more proud of our Monterey Toreadors.”

The annual Honor Roll is part of the National Campaign for Business and Education Excellence (CBEE). The campaign engages business leaders in recognizing successful schools and educational systems that are preparing students with the fundamental skills needed to be successful in the workforce and in life. This Honor Roll is the only school recognition program presented in partnership with state and local business leaders, using solely objective student achievement data as the criteria for recognition. The goal of the Honor Roll is to find and highlight successful schools and districts and encourage collaboration among educators on best practices for raising student achievement.

“We are pleased to congratulate and honor the work of Monterey High School,” said PK Diffenbaugh, Superintendent, Monterey Peninsula Unified School District. “We thank the Campaign for Business and Education Excellence (CBEE) for this recognition. It truly takes collaboration with community partners, families, and schools to ensure students receive the support they need to succeed in school and beyond.”

The Honor Roll is co-presented by the Campaign for Business & Education Excellence, the California Foundation for Commerce & Education, the Texas Business Leadership Council, the Los Angeles Area Chamber of Commerce, the California Black Chamber of Commerce, the CalAsian Chamber of Commerce, the San Francisco Chamber of Commerce, and the San Joaquin Education Equals Opportunity.
