Monterey Police to monitor student safety during construction congestion

From the office of Monterey High School Principal Tom Newton

Hello Green Machine,

I wanted to share an update regarding the traffic we have on campus and in the surrounding neighborhood.

Due to construction making the top of campus the only true entrance and exit, the congestion with cars at the beginning and end of the day has become a safety hazard, the Monterey Police Department has informed us that they will be monitoring traffic congestion and will be present at the beginning and end of day.

The good news is that over Spring Break, we will be creating a pathway around the construction zone for students to traverse to Pacific Ave for arriving and exiting campus.

This path will use the concrete walkway on the north end of the athletic field, go down the new steps to the lower field and go through the district lot.

This will allow students and families to utilize the bottom of campus next to the District Office Tennis courts which should alleviate the congestion at the top of campus.

Thank you again for your continued support during a difficult time of construction.  I am happy to say that in a year that we knew would prove difficult due to the incredible revisioning of facilities and student spaces, we are nearing the finish line!
