Principal's Message

 Hello Green Machine Community,

Thank you to everyone who came and participated in Open House!  It was a very fun event that was a great welcome for our incoming freshmen and also a beautiful showcase of student achievement.  I was super proud of our student groups and our staff for putting together such an inviting atmosphere.

We are truly in the last stretch of the school year entering May.  This is not the time for students to relax, which is easy to do, but it is actually the time to buckle down and get into high gear, to put ourselves in the best position to finish the year strong. Just five weeks until Finals begin (four for Seniors!) and we need to navigate the distractions to find the success for which we are all hoping.

There is an opportunity coming up for our school community to have their voices heard when it comes to the newly passed Measure A school bond.  Monday, May 12th at 5:00pm, Dr. Diffenbaugh will be hosting a community forum to discuss the facilities master planning.  I am really excited for this meeting as I am sure all of you are.  We have revisioned many aspects of Monterey High School over the last six years (Science and Innovation Center, infrastructure projects, athletic facilities, etc.) and as we are on our path of becoming a world-class high school and the best experience for students in Monterey County, we have a great opportunity to share our desires and dreams for the future!   Please join me for this informative evening.

SBAC season has concluded, and I am happy to say that I am very proud of our students' approach.  From every angle I witnessed, students were focused and determined to score well, and I hope the results reflect that approach.  SBAC results influence school ranking, the manner in which college admissions offices view our school, scholarship opportunities, university and community college placement, and much more.  Thank you to all in our school community for helping to make it a positive experience for our students.

Parents/Guardians, please make sure to continue checking in and having conversations with your students, making sure they are getting good rest, staying up on their assignments/assessments, and communicating with teachers to ensure being on the same page about their education.  Our partnership with our families and community is vastly important, and our communication lines are absolutely vital to student success.  I look forward to the strong finish we desire and seeing the joy that comes with a year that ends well.

Go Dores!
