Welcome to Monterey High School
Greetings Green Machine!
It is my pleasure to welcome you back for the second semester of the 2019-2020 school year. We have a very busy quarter coming up and it will be important to stay aware of upcoming activities and deadlines but also to get the semester kicked off well.
In the third quarter we have SBAC Interim Assessments in ELA and Math in February. These should help our students and teachers know strengths and areas of growth in preparation for the upcoming summative assessments in the 4th quarter. Additionally, it will help our students get familiar with the unique testing format of the state assessment which is taken entirely on their Chromebook.
We have ELPAC testing coming up this quarter which provides our English Learner (EL) students an opportunity to show their growth and redesignate as English Language Proficient. We are excited for our EL students and hope that the entire school community wraps around them as they take the next steps in their success at Monterey High School.
Parents and guardians, please have conversations with your students about what classes and pathways they would like to join in the coming year as course requests with our counseling staff is on the horizon. Your student’s educational pursuits should be a family decision and we hope our website with academies, pathways and courses listed helps to provide insight on the direction your student would like to take.
Parent Teacher Conferences take place February 25-27th, and they will operate as they did in the Fall semester with scheduled appointments for the first two days and an open invitation to all parents on Thursday. The times will be 1:45 - 3:45 pm both Tuesday and Thursday and Wednesday will be from 5:30 - 7:30 pm.
It is my pleasure to announce that Monterey High School was named by Newsweek Magazine to be a Top STEM High School in the country, the first time in our history we have been recognized as such. We are proud to be the only ADA school in Monterey County to be recognized, and we would like to congratulate all our students and staff for their hard work.
Finally, thank you Green Machine for being a part of this great educational tradition that is Monterey High School. Go Dores!
